Written in the mid-seventies, Garp's World is still today's world: with all the cruelties, all the incongruities, and the complex movement between guilt and repentance. And still the book is an open window on paradise.

It shows also the difficulty of translation: certain feelings and sensitivities are bound to their social environment and cultural identity.
